AMOEBA MUSIC on Haight Street, San Francisco looks like an out-of-business bowling alley turned into a going-out-of-business music venue, but inside it’s a kaleidoscope of every musical genre in vinyl and CD. No cassettes or 8-tracks to be seen, but original posters and handbills are available, for an affordable price ($30 to $600) for some of the greatest acts to come out of the US.
Music is the sticky-tape of my generation. For each person, it’s different, but it’s also the same — a musical groove opens up, and whether it’s the lyrics or the sax, the backbeat or the distinctive vocalist, we are young again and we can smell that car, that bar, that weed, and that perfume. The road went straight on into the sunset.
