Vultures Among the Sheep

As I passed a small sheep pasture near the house, I spied a very large number of Black Vultures —perhaps 30 — on the ground among the sheep.

Huh.  Was a sheep giving birth, which would mean placenta in the field?

I figured that was it, especially with half a dozen vultures huddled around a downer sheep in the grass.  But when I stopped to look a bit closer with a lens, this sheep stood up and ambled off, and all the other sheep appeared mobile. No newborn lambs were evident, and my presence got the vultures taking off to kettle overhead.

So… I don’t know. 🤷‍♂️

I do know these sheep could use a good shearing, but that’s a different thing, isn’t it?
