On this day in 1940, Woody Guthrie wrote “This Land is Your Land” in his room at the Hanover House Hotel at 43rd St. and 6th Ave. in New York City.

When the sun come shining, then I was strolling
And the wheat fields waving, and the dust clouds rolling
The voice was chanting as the fog was lifting
This land was made for you and me
