Old Barns Are Always Cool

They're cool to look at, but I'd never want to own one that's been poorly-kept or is in disrepair, especially if there were animals that needed its shelter/safety or I needed the space for storage of important items. A friend's adult child bought acreage with some old barns that were truly magnificent in their day and still have some of that aura about them that would show up in photos, but with massive holes in the roof, broken windows, who-knows-what in the deep dirt piles inside and soft wood in precarious places, I think the one horse on the property deserves better. Even driving out to family land in the country over the years while growing up, I saw many old barns decay and fall victim to time; some went down on their own in painful slow motion, others were torn down.

It would be nice if they would last, but sometimes the bones have to follow the skin and it's difficult to describe the emotion I feel seeing these remnants of our past actively decay.
