Coffee and Provocation

Can't Get There From Here
The 4,300-mile long Amazon does not have a single bridge across it. Guess why? Think roads, flood, and debris.

Lost on the Way to Paris
A Killer Whale (Orca) got lost in France’s river Seine, and has died after a rescue attempt.

A Nice Job If You Can Get It
Ocean City, New Jersey (not Maryland), has a falconer employed to keep seagulls off the beach.

Salvation Snacks
In Quebec, communion wafers are sold as snacks in stores. It's truly amazing that anyone swallows the malarkey (pun intended) put out by a church whose "good book green-lights mass murder, infanticide, rape, and slavery, and whose "body of Christ" cookies are a commercial product sold in a grocery store.

When Your Truck is Your Power Backup
The extended-range Ford Lightning’s 131 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion pack boasts almost 10 times the capacity of a Tesla Powerwall and can keep your house powered for days.

Cleaning Up on Laundry Soap
Making your own laundry soap is cheap and easy, and will save you a lot of money.

Canada Moves to Stem Gun Violence
Canada has introduced gun-control legislation that would "freeze” buying, importing, transferring and selling handguns. The proposed law also includes “red flag” laws that would allow judges to temporarily remove firearms from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others, stiffer penalties for gun smuggling and trafficking, and a 5-shot limit for all rifle magazines. In 2020, Canada banned 1,500 makes and models of “military-style assault weapons” after a gunman posing as a police officer charged across rural Nova Scotia, killing 22 people including a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer.

It's the Guns, Not the Non-Marriages
Unmarried moms are rarer in the US than in France, Sweden, New Zealand, the UK, or the Netherlands.

High Gas Prices Pushing the World to the Next Economy
The new economy will be electric vehicles (including motorcycles and bicycles), expanded and subsidized public transportation, and more people working from home. One step in the right direction: Germany has just slashed summer train fares more than 90 percent to curb driving and save fuel.

Bunk, Woo and Waste
A study with 30,899 participants found no link between vitamin supplements and longer lifespans.
