Pulp, Paper, and Pooches

This is the remains of a 19th Century pulp mill on the Shenandoah Canal at Harpers Ferry, WV. Five sluiceways and 10 turbines ground trees to paper pulp from 1887 to 1935. 

Pulp mills made mass literacy possible and sparked a massive liberation of knowledge, including information about dogs, natural selection, and science.
