A Civil War Hiding Cave Near Antietam

This human-expanded cave was used as a civilian hiding place by Sharpsburg, MD residents during the Battle of  Antietam during the Civil War (America’s bloodiest battle ever).  It’s just above Dargan Bend on the C&O Canal, and is one of several small hiding caves in the area. The Killiansburg and Snyder’s Landing caves are among the others.
