Jean Dodds Has Become an Unlicensed Scammer

The California Veterinary Medical Board has issued a cease-and-desist order and levied a fine on 80-year old Dr. Jean Dodds for practicing veterinary medicine without a license.

As SkeptVet notes, Jean Dodds did some important work early in her career, but has since drifted into the world of wacko.

She promotes speculative, inaccurate, and even clearly false claims about thyroid disease, pet nutrition, and vaccines. She has become especially blatant in selling proprietary diagnostic tests that, at best, are unproven and that, in some cases, have been clearly shown not to work. She has an undeserved reputation for being an “expert” in fields in which she is actually simply an outlier, promoting views that clash not only with the assessments of true experts but with basic science and research evidence.

Jean Dodds says she graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1964, but there is no evidence (yet) that she was licensed in New York (where she worked for the the state for about 20 years) or California (where she has been in business for about 30 years). The California Attorney General's office is now investigating, and insurance, wire fraud, and nonprofit fraud charges may follow.

Jean Dodds started the Hemopet blood blank (a needed thing) but has since drifted off into Nutriscan and CellBIO which are quackery and malarkey.

As always in the world of dogs... caveat emptor.

Thank you for posting the facts about Jean Dodds. I was an acolyte early in my dog ownership. Soon thereafter, I listened to her seminar at the Akita Nationals. She and her friend, "Dogtor J" speak with such authority, in a vernacular that is laughable.

I've had a couple of dogs' thyroid analyzed and she's called me at 11 pm, CA to NH. I did not feel "chosen". I felt interrupted.
Religion and fake science ally themselves in a repugnant way heralded by jesters that have no humor.

I am glad the Hemopet blood bank is closing. What a horrible thing for all those poor dogs to go through.

They have not done a good job at the cease and desist with Jean Dodds wanna be veterinarian. She is still giving out “medical” quackery advise to breeders without a license they need to shut down the emails for her and the numbers for the practice. And/or make a link to report her for giving out ridiculous “medical” information.
