Choker mouse traps are old, simple, and efficient.
The basic construction is a baited tube in which the mouse’s movement unleashes a trigger which releases a spring tightening a wire or string noose around the mouse, asphyxiating it in short order.
Asian choker traps made with a 2” round piece of bamboo tube and a split bamboo spring pole rising vertical through that same tube have been around for a 1,000 years. 19th Century European and American versions employ drilled hard wood blocks and metal springs, with late 20th Century versions trading hard plastic for wood.
