Deer In the Gloaming

I got to cooking chili, and the time slipped by. When I looked up it was almost dark, and so I scooted out of the house very fast to deer spot in rapidly failing light.

The result of being 30 minutes later was that there were at least 25 deer in the field, scattered in clumps until I somehow got them all stampeding back into the woods. That was truly spectacular, with deer making giant leaps over the creek which reflected the last golden rays of sunlight.

Of course, I missed all that — too much movement.

Very low light, long distance, and a handheld camera in cold wind does not make for action-shots or even half decent photos.

But I don’t care; I love critter-spotting even if the photos are blurry and poorly composed. I consider every hour spent in field and forest time well spent.
