Keeping America Wild
America is adding forest thanks to smart public and private lands management. But some places should never be logged and should forever remain roadless. We need the wild.... the wilder... the wilderness.
Thanks also to the fact that industrial style farming is not viable in many (most) of the Eastern states. Old field succession was well advanced when E. Odum's classic Fundamentals of Ecology was published in 1953. Regrowth has also been going on in large areas of the west since the virgin forests were felled. For that matter there's a lot of regrowth in deforested parts of Amazonia.
