After the Dog Has Died

Every time I lost a dog, the great dog man Donald McCaig would email me the same instructions:

“Another dog, same breed, right away.”

And he would append this link to a piece from Vicki Hearne.

I pass this on because that’s the job, if the Circle is to be unbroken.

Having said this, if your last dog was an inbred "pure breed" genetic mess that died young, please consider a cross-breed or another breed. Also, if your last breed was a deformed morphological mess with a shoved in face or a roached back, please consider a cross-breed or another breed.

i assume you got that the comment you quoted by McCaig and Vicki Hearne is facetious (though it's not obvious, reading your post here....)
great piece by Hearne and great book--one of my favorites.
