When Richard E. Byrd explored the North and South Poles, he took Igloo along. Igloo, a stray terrier picked up on the streets of Washington, D.C. chased penguins, picked fights with the sled dogs, and had a camel-hair coat to help him keep warm. His headstone is shaped like an iceberg. There's a statue of Byrd and Igloo in Winchester, Virginia.
