A Smart Doe in Black Powder Season

Black powder guns out in force today, but this little lady seemed safe a few hundred yards from a road.

The species name is Virginianus, but the whitetail has been introduced as far away as New Zealand and Finland. Around the turn of the century we shot so many deer in the state of Virginia that 50 year later they we’re still being reintroduced from other states.

Now whitetail deer are so common in Virginia that most folks will run out of freezer space before they run out of tag opportunities.
