Texas Official Says It Doesn't Need Help

This drone footage of flooding following Hurricane Harvey is from Simonton, Texas.

The Texas Secretary of State says the state doesn't need any assistance from Canada or Mexico.

They're fine? That's good, because back when a massive hurricane smashed into New Jersey and New York, Texas' members of Congress voted against sending help because America was dead broke. We still needed to extend tax cuts to the rich, of course, but it was beyond the pale to help flooded folks in New York and New Jersey.

Sauce for the goose is sauce for gander I say.

The country is still dead broke and we still (apparently) need to extend tax cuts to the rich, and never mind if fat cat politicians like Donald Trump don't pay any taxes at all.

So good luck to Texas. We're doing as we're told: sending our thoughts and prayers.

I'm a Houston resident and longtime fan.

First of all, I am incredibly embarrassed by some of our politicians, particularly Mr. Cruz. There was no excuse for his response to Hurricane Sandy victims as there is no excuse for many of the things he has said and done. How have some of these people been elected? I don't know and not sure I will ever be able to understand it.

Harris County and Houston voted for Hillary - there were lots of Trump signs but even more Hillary signs. None of that matters much today.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers and thanks to the army of people from around the country who are trying to rescue dogs and other mammals. Lots of mammals here need your help but there are probably some in your neighborhood who could use some help too, if you have any to spare.

How do these people get elected? I am not sure I will ever understand. If you ask people in my neighborhood, they are thrilled and touched by any assistance coming their way and would be even more moved if it came from Canada or Mexico.

Houston is the most culturally diverse city in the US. Mayor Sylvester Turner and police chief Art Acevedo have publicly announced that there will be no checking of citizenship or immigration status for those in need of emergency assistance.

Harris County and Houston voted for Hillary in November. There were a lot of Trump signs but there were more Hillary signs. None of that matters now. So yes, send good thoughts and prayers for people in trouble. I am sending prayers and thanks to the many people from around the country who are working tirelessly to help dogs and other mammals affected by this awful flood.
