Ever since I heard someone on NPR describe milk as "growth hormones for baby cows" I've been drinking a lot less of it. The interviewer's basic point was that one reason people today are "as big as cows" is that Americans drink a lot of milk and eat a lot of cheese. Milk is designed to put WEIGHT on baby cows FAST. Is that our goal as adults? Of course, a little research shows that per capita milk consumption in the US has plummeted as obesity rates have soared, but I suspect that's because folks are switching to soda rather than tea without sugar.
