Terriers are Bred to Bark
Terriers are bred to bark -- it's a core competency involved in the work they do underground.
If you want a quiet dog, get a greyhound or other true running dog. Their silence is a core competency involved in the work they do above ground
the cool thing is though, Terriers are also extra smart, and can easily be trained not to bark at unimportant things; they can easily learn to understand the difference and relative importance to us humans between an intruder and a passerby, or a leaf falling..;)
