This is a photo of 346 migratory birds killed in a single night by striking a single building in Galveston, Texas.
Most of these birds are neo-tropical migrant songbirds coming north on a storm front, no doubt having flown over open water a long distance.
Among the dead: Black-and-white Warblers; Western Tanagers; Scarlet Tanagers; Summer Tanager; Blackburnian Warblers; Ovenbirds; American Redstarts; Indigo Bunting; Orchard Orioles; Yellow-rumped Warbler; Black-throated Green Warbler; Bay-breasted Warbler; Golden-winged Warbler; Western Thrush; Swainson's Thrush, Wilson's Warbler; Red-eyed Vireo; and Gray Catbird.
See the links below to learn a bit more about why so many of these bird species are in decline.
