This picture is out of Finland, and I have a hard time believing its not staged, as Amanita muscaria is a powerful hallucinogen and an occasional poison. A fox that ate half a mushroom would be riding a pink unicorn. And yet, fox eat strange stuff, and even poisons, all the time. What do you think?

Maybe the fox liked riding a pink unicorn. Or maybe it affects them differently than it affects us.
There are a bunch of mushrooms that look a lot like Amanita Muscara, including the Amanita caesarea. Some of them are quite safe to eat. Perhaps the fox knows this.
Self medication, recreational or experimental ?
The chunks of mushroom to the left show the fox may not actually be consuming it. Maybe there is a scent on it.
I've heard of wolves eating moss to cure infection
I reckon animals self medicate.
Also heard of reindeer eating these mushrooms.
Photo strongly suggests flyagaric, Amanita muscaria.
Unmistakable compared to the edible variety.
