Information on working terriers, dogs, natural history, hunting, and the environment, with occasional political commentary as I see fit. This web log is associated with the Terrierman.com web site.
A woman who loves her dogs (and her eye make-up.) She says people asks her how she trains, and she describes it as basically communication… and isn't communicating with the dogs what Cesar Milan does, first and foremost? I hope people don't mock her for not having pit bulls or hunting dogs, for dressing-up and being an entertainer. Poodles were bred for the circus as much as coon hounds for raccoon hunting. Anyone who has lived with poodles knows they love this stuff, costumes and all.
Like Uncas in the Last of the Mohicans, she is one of the last of her kind -- an old school circus performer and carny person of the type that use to roam all over Europe and America. Her whole life has been moving and dog training. Her mother clearly left a lot of psychological scar tissue on her, and that has had an impact on her relations with others, but in the end she had made herself a life and achieved her goals. As for the Poodles, they are terrific and have a great life. They love and are loved. What's not to love about that!?
Yup. The editing and theme music attempt to evoke a certain pathos for "The Poodle Trainer", but, like you, I'm not buying it. Says she can't describe how she trains the tricks, but clearly expresses that she is happy with her life. She has a done a wonderful job training one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs. -- TEC
