Here's another Super Bowl ad. This one is very cute, and features a very strong and tightly compressed story which actually features the product (unlike the Budweiser ad), and which also puts the product -- Cheerios -- where it is normally found, at the breakfast table with a parent and child.
But notice that the little girl does not say she wants a DOG. She says she wants a puppy.
But she is not going to get a puppy -- at least not for very long.
She is going to get a DOG, and Mom's look of concern reflects her knowledge that while a young child wants a cute puppy to play with a few minutes a day, that same little girl is very soon going to be more interested in friends, boys, and sports than she is an adult dog which will live for another 10 to 15 years.
