Guinea Pig: It's a Dark Meat


The people of Peru eat about 65 million guinea pigs a year.  Because guinea pigs require far less room than traditional livestock and reproduce very rapidly, they are a more profitable and productive for small impoverished land owners, and they can even be raised inside cities and towns.

What's it taste like?  About the same as squirrel.

I like the pairing with potatoes, which are also indigenous to Peru.
