Digging on the Dogs

Isaac the falconer was in from California, so we got together for a day of digging on the dogs. Lots of holes, and the eight or nine months I have been hunting on other properties seems to have allowed a lot of groundhogs to move in from surrounding areas, which is OK as far as the dogs and I are concerned!

This early in the season the holes are always very tight as wet weather, gravity, and a 30 percent decline in groundhog weight over winter always results in the the den pipes constricting and collapsing. The female groundhogs are still not moving out too much. Things will be more productive by May.

This little fellow is being tailed up and out of harm's way after being snared.
