Our Electricity Is Back On!

The house is just starting to cool off.  Electrical cords from the generator are being rolled up.

Thank goodness, as I have a 7:10 am radio interview (New York City on some FM station for all you early-risers), and I forgot that I have neither a land line nor a cell phone without electricity.  Yes, even the cell phones have not been working, as the cell towers around here lost all power since so many lines came down in the wind, and so many electrical transformers exploded with the lightning strikes.  Most people are still without electricity, but we are back on the grid!

The video, at top, is of the storm that did us in starting up in Iowa, and sweeping west.  It was short and fast and furious with 80-mph winds and enough lighting to power the nation for 100 years.  About 15 people died, but not us.  Not this time.

A reminder, however, that Mother Nature and Father Time are both serial killers, and we are all their children.  I think that explains a lot.

Congratulations on riding the grid again, and let's hope we have no more "happy" returns of THAT day! At :40 of that tape we were in the red zone, and man, it was a weird experience. No warning, just a sudden wall of wind. No one I know had ever heard of a derecho before, and even the weather-people seemed to have a number of ways to pronounce it. Didn't know living through one of those was on my bucket list, but I'm glad to be able to x it off!
