I'm not sure if I have see this fox before. He or she seems to have a bit of a kink at the very end of the tail, or perhaps it is just a bit raggedy. Could this be Skin Tail back without his tail mange?
It says a lot that it is so difficult to tell one fox from another despite the fact that the population is extremely heterogeneous due to the fact that males are pushed out of their natal territories at about the age of 9 months, while mortality is always very high. The average male fox will be dead by age three; half will die younger than that. In short, the genetic pool of fox is always boiling and turning over in rapid succession.
For those who remember Skin Tail, he was one of my yard fox with a case of tail mange. It turns out that simply feeding fox in order to improve their natural immunity (and decrease stress) will fix mild cases of mange like Skin Tail had.
