Researchers in Louisiana say they’ve discovered unique antibiotic proteins in the blood of American alligators that can kill a wide variety of deadly bacteria, halt the spread of common infections and perhaps even stop HIV, according to The Palm Beach Post.
There's already a drug made from Gila monster saliva. The drug, Byetta, is used to treat Type II diabetes, and has total sales of about $430 million last year.
While in California, they are looking into black bear hibernation to see if they can figure out why the bears seem to be so well protected from osteoporosis.
