Kentucky Big Cat Claims are Bogus

My father, who hails from Pineville, Kentucky, sent me this link from the Middlesboro Daily News which contains a picture of a massive mountain lion that was reportedly hit by a Volkswagon beetle near Middlesboro, Kentucky.

The newspaper article contains a great deal of detail. And it's all bullshit.

April Fool's Day joke? Yep -- revealed in the last line. The joke did not work with me, as I recognized the picture of the cat immediately, as the one that was struck by a car on Highway 89 between Prescott and Ash Fork, AZ. The picture made it to the Field Notes blog over at Field and Stream last month. And for the record, it was not a Volkswagen that hit this big cat, but a Ford 350 truck.

Yet, you can be sure that this article, with the last two lines clipped off, will be sent around the country under the title: "Kentucky Mountain Lions No Longer a Myth."

P.T. Barnum would be laughing. "This way to the Egress"
.
