Unfortunately not every one is wanting or expecting a dog to live to see 20 years. In the Rescue we get entirely too many dogs of 8, 10 or 12 years because they become inconvenient. Sadly we don't have the scope to foster this many dogs and too many are euthanized at a pound. When adopting out a dog we emphasize that a Jack or even a Rattie will live a looong time for a dog. I just turned 61 and have a gift pup from an adopted female. I'm figuring he will be my last puppy to raise because I expect to be 80 when he leaves me. Sadly accidents do happen but when getting a young dog one should expect this. Basic Line is an axiom that we both profess. People should do their research before getting a dog.
