It seems a lot of folks have NO IDEA how to quickly find a good rescue dog.
Let’s start with the basics:
▪️Almost every breed has a breed -specific rescue operating in your state. Use the Google and contact the breed club. For example, if you were looking for a Papillon, try >> https://bfy.tw/UTJu Note: Not one commenter has ever said they first called a breed rescue. Amazing! It’s almost as if the commenters are not *really* looking for a dog, but for an excuse to go to a breeder. Which is fine, but just be honest about it.
▪️If you are going to County pounds, you’re doing it wrong. That’s like going to a police holding cell to look for a date, while ignoring every on-line dating site. Most rescues and shelters feed their available dogs into petfinder.com, which is searchable by breed, size, age, etc. It’s a terrific tool (funded by Purina) and it has placed over 40 million dogs, cats, and other pets. Try >> https://www.petfinder.com and look at dogs within 100 miles of your house. If you won’t drive 100 miles to see a dog, please do NOT get a dog.
▪️Pet stores often have rescue and foster “meet and greet” events, which is a great way to meet folks at rescues and find out about dogs even before they are listed. Rescue vans are coming into your area all the time, and if your solid application is in, it’s a bit like pre-qualifying for a mortgage. Try >> https://bfy.tw/UTJv
▪️Petsmart has its own local rescue lookup. Try >> https://petsmartcharities.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-events
