There Are No Words I Can Use

In 1973, Pink Floyd had a slow piano track they wanted to record without words. At the last minute, they asked a virtally unknown vocalist to accompany it. They only had one instruction: No Words.

Clare Torry did it in one day over three takes. For 30 years, she got no writer's credit -- just the 30 pounds for the session. In 2004, she sued for royalties and co-writer's credit, and the case was settled out of court.

"The Great Gig in the Sky" was featured on The Dark Side of the Moon album, and 2012, readers of Rolling Stone ranked it the second best vocal performance in rock history.
