Dropping a Tree With a Hollow Base

This dead Chestnut Oak
(a type of white oak) was hollow straight through the bottom foot, but surprisingly solid above that.

My tree guys put tension on this one with a Bobcat to ensure it didn’t break the other way and possibly hit my house. A lot of firewood for my neighbor in this one! Black ants killed the tree and they poured out of the base from the saw’s vibration.

I am going to save a 10- or 12-foot long section of the base for carving projects.
