H.E. (High Explosive) Kelly" was the mascot of a Coast Guard-Manned invasion transport. Born on an 83-footer in the Atlantic, "Kelly" served on two oceans and was listed on the ship's muster roll as a “gunner's mate second class”. The dog was promoted two jumps for his exceptional barking at Saipan. Kelly's bunkmate was Coast Guardsman John Sheridan, Chief Boatswain's mate of Woodcliff, N.J.
