Wing-tagged Black Vulture

This bird is tagged as part of a West Virginia aviation bird-strike study.

Wing tags are used on vultures because the birds defectate down their legs, which helps them stay cool. Vulture bird poop is very acidic, however, and it would eat the metal and perhaps result in a leg ulcer on the bird if it was leg ring-tagged.
