Apsethus the Libyan taught parrots to speak, and then released them to fly around North Africa.
The parrots were trained to say "Apsethus is God", and Apsethus himself asserted he was God.
The Libyan people began to believe Apsethus was a voice from Heaven and started sacrificing animals to him.
Later a Greek caught a parrot, and trained it to say, "Apsethus having caged us, compelled us to say Apsethus is a god".
The Libyans later burned Apsethus to death.
