What?? How??
Apparently California’s 1970 endangered species law explicitly protected “fish,” which were initially defined to include invertebrates.
And because the act has previously protected snails and other invertebrates that live on land, as well as in water, the latest ruling said it interpreted the legislation to also include bees.
Not to be outdone, the Catholic Church previously ruled beavers, alligators, and nutria were also fish.
