Landslides and floods
are salvation for elk, bison, and grizzly.
Mosquitoes, ticks, and poison ivy
save fox, deer, and beaver.
Two thousand foot climbs on rocky trails
mean clean water lies below.
Chiggers, gnats, and sand fleas
keep muumuu skirts and flip flops at bay.
Wolves still howl in these hills
and mountain lions catch the joggers.
Tell everyone you meet
that this land will break you
God bless thorns and nettles,
the rattlesnakes and scorpions.
God bless the bad roads
that protect Good Country.
