As we begin to take our boot off Mother Nature's neck, wild place and wildlife are starting to recover a bit in some areas, including European and American wolves. But wolves are a top-end predator and have never been problem-free as a result.
The good news is that more and more pastoral people are turning to livestock guarding dogs to manage herds and keep the wolves at bay.
The bad news is that some countries are moving backwards, among them Sweden, which is posed to kill half of their rather modest wolf population of 400 animals. If Sweden follows through, that decision could violate European Union biodiversity laws.
