A Tree Being Consumed by Fungus

  1. Oh ignorance of the 5th kingdom.
    Fungus is a broad taxon.

  2. I'm not ignorant -- took fungus course in college and grew them for a few years. Pretty good collector and even have spore prints stuck in the leaves of a few fungus books in the library.

Not sure what this particular polypore is, but I would start with Trametes versicolor and start looking in that Trametes arena.

If you eat mushrooms (I don't) it's best to stick to 5-6 common and easy to identify varieties, as there are so many look-alikes and natural variabilities.
