Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures consume massive amounts of roadkill, gut-shots, and other expired flesh, from downer farm stock to stranded fish after flood. Surely someone has used vulture populations to estimate death in the countryside, but i cannot find it.
Turkey Vultures find the dead mostly by smell, unlike black vultures that mostly use sight (following Turkey Vultures).
Turkey Vulture range extends from the Canada border south to the tip of South America.
