Everything came through this location in a very short period of time — deer, red fox, gray fox, possum, raccoon, rabbits. It’s near a creek, but I think the attraction may be that the loose thicket allows multiple exit strategies when conflicts arise.
Skunks are a bane to terrier work.
Though these little fellows only weigh about 3 pounds, they spray an acidic cloud from the glands at the rear that put out a long-lasting and foul odor.
There’s no long-lasting damage if a dog is sprayed above-ground, but underground it’s different. Here the acid can burn canine corneas, and the spray can chelate to red blood cells and explode them, resulting in a 1-2 punch of anemia and liver failure.
