Bedlington's With Roached Backs

The Kennel Clubs have not done much to improve the Bedlington Terrier.

The dog show world has taken a rather normal-looking dog with a strange whip tail, and added a roached back -- a kind of selection for defect that makes the dog look like it survived a car wreck or was born with spinal degeneration.

The roached back was actually part of the breed standard for many decades, but that aspect has now been reworded in an effort to reduce the number of freakishly “wheel-backed” dogs being paraded around the ring.

  1. I absolutely cannot look at these dogs in show clip and NOT think of the freak "baby" from Eraserhead. Art, life, etc and so on.
