Buffalo Soldiers on Bicycles in the Yellowstone
Buffalo’s Soldiers, U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps., Fort Missoula, Montana 1897. In the Yellowstone.
The 24th Infantry was another black unit stationed at Ft. George Wright in the NW. These black soldiers, among other things, helped fight 1910 forest fires.
The Triple Nickles (sic) was an all black Smoke Jumper unit, the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion. During WWII they were assigned task of fighting fires that the Japanese might start with incendiary balloons launched to fall upon forests of the NW.
Unfortunately brave black soldiers, when off post, were often subjected to the same discrimination that black civilians were. -- TEC
Find these pictures and write ups wonderful.
