The front of a hole doesn’t tell you how tight it is inside. Fox in particular will open up an entrance into a kind of loafing area so they can slide in or out to regulate temperature, stay safe, and get out of the wind and wet. Based on shape, I’d say this den has never had a fox in it, but it’s a pretty old groundhog sette and a good prospect for a revisit.
