This is Not a Wolf

I took this photo of a Maned Wolf at the National Zoo earlier this week.

Native to Brazil, these animals have incredibly long legs and a hunched gait.  They are actually not a wolf or a fox, but their own genus called “Chrysocyon,” which means Golden Dog.

Maned wolves hunt solo, and about half their diet is plant (a lot of it is wolf apples), and about half is snakes, frogs, rabbits, birds and other small game.
