Martha Jane “Mary” McEwen Farrer was attacked by a Coyote in a chicken coop. She developed rabies within a month. As the rabies worsened, she was uncontrollable. She was also pregnant at the time of being bitten, and her and the child were buried in the cemetery before her husband, James Farrer, returned home from his business. The tombstone recounts how she actually died; the name on was actually gotten wrong due to widespread illiteracy at the time.
