The Black Hedge

The hedge rows of Maryland and Virginia are filled with darkness: Black Cherry, Black Chokeberry, Black Walnut, Black Locust, and Black Oak.

Tiny slips of these trees, and many more, are available, in bulk, from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources nursery, in lots of 25-100 or more. The price? An amazing $1 a slip.

If you have a fallow field, why not get an Eagle Scout to plant out an orchard of Persimmons?
