If something disturbs a nest of shrews, the babies will hook onto each other and their mother and create a "train" or "caravan" out and to the next location. Apparently, shrews do this because they cannot see very well. Each shrew grasps the base of the tail of the shrew in front of it, and the mother shrew runs along with a line of young trailing behind.
