The amount of soil turned over by denning mammals is substantial. I mark dens now because... science, and because it might help locate a few more on a blank day. Most of these are groundhog settes, most of them unoccupied. I have worked this land for at least a decade, but it's thousands of acres and I am not very efficient. It's clear the groundhogs are not in danger of going extinct.
