RAF Captain Eric Stanley Lock boarding his Spitfire with his terrier, on July 31, 1941.
Note that the dog is dutifully impressed with his master's 26 Nazi kills, 21 of which were achieved during the Battle of Britain.
Captain Lock was killed in battle in August 3, 1941, four days after this picture was taken, when his plane crashed in the English Channel. His body was never recovered.
