A doctoral student at the University of Pennsylvania has identified a new species of fossil dog that roamed Maryland approximately 12 million years ago. Cynarctus wangi was a hyena-like canine with massive jaws capable of crushing bone. The fossil canine was found along the beach under the Choptank Formation at Calvert Cliffs. Thanks for this one Lucas M.!
